On the 15th, Yeungnam University signed an MOU on FDI (foreign direct investment of ISET (International Solar Electric Technology) with ISET and K&K Solar (Korean investment corporation of ISET) at the headquarters of ISET located in Chatsworth, a city located northwest of LA. It was established in 1985 and recently, it is planning to construct a global production line. Its first overseas project is to construct a mass-production line in Korea. For this, in November of last year, ISET participated in the GGECN (Global Green Energy Cluster Network) that promised global cooperation among solar cell cluster institutes of Korea, US, France, Germany and Australia in the green energy sector at Yeungnam University. This time, an MOU was signed directly with Yeungnam University. Accordingly, Yeungnam University\'s RIC for Solar Cell & Module (Regional Innovation Center, director Jung, Jae-hak), Institute of Solar Energy (director Park, Jin-ho), and Solar Cell Materials and Process R&D Workforce Cultivation Program(director Park, Jin-ho) were chosen as business partners to pursue the construction of the domestic mass-production line of low-cost, high-efficient CIGS thin-film solar cells developed by ISET. In addition, it is expected that they will conduct close mutual cooperation for industry-academic joint research and Recruitment of R&D personnel with Yeungnam University. Dr. Vijay K. [February 17, 2011] “Find the Tastes of Asia and the Sounds of Asia!” \'Harmony of Asia\', where university students from Korea and the 10 ASEAN countries will gather at one place to make the taste (food) and sound (music) of Asia, will begin on the 20th lasting to the 1st of the next month at Yeungnam University. Yeungnam University (president Lee, Hyo-soo) was recently selected as the host institute for the \'Korea-ASEAN Youth Exchange and Culture Community Construction Project\', which is part of the cooperative project of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). ASEAN is a regional cooperative organization with the goal for searching for joint potential cooperation for the joint security and independence in Southeast Asia. It was first established in August 8, 1967 and currently, there are 10 member countries (Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia). Thus, Yeungnam University, centering on the Multi-cultural Education & Research Institute (director Park, Seung-woo), will host the \'Harmony of Asia\', a 10 day 9 night festival on the theme of culture with the cooperation of AUN (ASEAN University Network). This event will proceed in the course of finding the \'Sound of Asia\' and \'Food of Asia\', from the music and food that contains the unique and special sentiment and environment of each country. World-acclaimed scholars (from left, Jang, Tae-ho, Kim, Tae-hyeong) They are Jang, Tae-ho (27) who is in the graduate school of Biochemistry and Kim, Tae-hyeong (27) in the graduate school of Pharmacy. They both enrolled in the Yeungnam University graduate school master\'s degree course in March 2009 and will receive their master\'s degree after accomplishing outstanding research achievements after two years. Jang, who majors in Biochemistry and is planning to enroll in the PhD program, worked on understanding the molecular-level union of proteins that play a part in the transmission of cell signals for the past two years, and by making chemicals or peptides that retard or promote such union, he worked on developing medicine to treat various diseases caused by the failure of cell signal transmission. In the process, he published a total of six papers in prominent SCI level international journals in the biochemical and molecular biology sectors such as ≪Journal of Biotechnology≫, ≪Apoptosis≫, ≪Biochim Biophys Acta≫, placing five of his papers as the main author. His adviser, Professor Park, Hyun-ho (36, School of Biotechnology), stated, \"It is a very rare case where one person publishes five papers in globally recognized SCI level journals during the two-year course of a master\'s degree program,\" adding, \"He not only has a sharp mind as a student of science, but also has a diligent attitude so I trust that he will grow into an excellent scientist.\" Kim, Tae-hyeong, who is in the graduate school of Pharmacy, will also be receiving his master\'s degree on this day, and he placed his name as the main author on the 28th of last month for the SCI-level international journal ≪Cancer Research≫ online edition. ≪Cancer Research≫, which has an impact factor of 7.5, is one of the most prominent academic journals in the cancer research sector, and it is very rare for a student in their master\'s degree course to have his paper publish in this journal. The title of his thesis was ‘Nrf2 blockade suppresses colon tumor angiogenesis by inhibiting hypoxia-induced activation of HIF-1α\'. He revealed the functions of \'Nrf2\' as a new target molecule that suppresses generation of new blood vessels through HIF-1α in the colon tumor model. ‘Nrf2’ is an important transcription factor that induces the revealing of Anti-Oxidant genes. This research was made through the support of the support program for leading researchers of the National Research Foundation of Korea and the Phase 2 BK21 Project (BK21 Human Resources Development for Development and Effect-Evaluation of Improved New Medicine) under the supervision of Professor Kwak, Mi-Kyoung (College of Pharmacy, Pharmacological Research Office). Kim has already earned a job as a researcher at Dong-A Pharmaceutical, and is working hard on researching and developing new medicine. Meanwhile, Yeungnam University will hold a commencement ceremony for the 2010 school year at the Chunma Art Center Chamber Hall at 11am on the 22nd and give diplomas to 73 PhDs, 502 masters and 4,108 bachelors. He is now planning a new life at the Korean Language Institute of Yeungnam university. It is for planning a new life as a Korean language teacher who teaches Korean to Japanese people. The time when he started getting interested in Korea was after watching \'Winter Sonata\' about 10 years ago. \"I could recollect my high school years from the looks of characters appearing in their uniforms. Japanese dramas are only rampaging with sex and violence. They do not have the attraction of impressing people emotionally like Korean dramas. That\'s the reason why the Korean wave started spreading based on elderly group of people in Japan since ten years ago. His interest toward Korea naturally led to studying Korean. But he had no choice but to be satisfied only with self-studying Korean through NHK as he was working as an elementary school teacher. Then in March of last year, he decided to start studying Korean on a full scale after retiring from his life as a teacher for 35 years. Despite the concern of his family, he carried out his first oversea study in July of last year. By participating in \'Chunma International Summer School\' that Yeungnam University prepared for foreigners, he studied together with people of various nationalities for the first time in his life and also experienced Korean traditional culture such as Korean traditional pottery, natural dying or tea ceremony, etc. \"My family was worried and dissuaded me at first when I told them I would study abroad at an age of over sixty. But they couldn\'t make me turn against my decision. I would have to live for several more decades from now and my family in fact understood my mind that I cannot be wasting my life as an old man who is good for nothing.\" But he who was not satisfied only with learning Korean for one month took a decisive action to study in Korea again in December 24th of last year. And he is in the process of \'studying hard\' without caring about the cold wave by registering the short-term special lecture course of Korean language which the Korean Language Institute of Yeungnam University established until January 28th. \"In Japan, the second Korean wave is spreading now. It is far greater than what they think of in Korea. It won\'t cool down easily either. If the Korean wave of 1st generation started spreading through Korean drama was something to just vaguely yearn about Korea based on elderly group of people, the 2nd generation Korean wave of idols such as Girls\' Generation, Kara, TVXQ and BigBang, etc moving the hearts of teens and twenties in Japan is rising now.
